Kashmir Highway renamed as Srinagar Highway

Pakistani government, as per its decision announced earlier eventually changed the name Kashmir of Highway and renamed it as Srinagar Highway.

After announcement in this connection in the Gazette of Pakistan, all traffic direction signboards are reorganized and the previously called Kashmir Highway has been stated on them as ‘Srinagar Highway.’

The direction signboards have been installed mentioning Srinagar Highway at various locations including Dhokri Chowk, Faizabad, Zero Point, Golra Mor, and Express Way.

The Srinagar Highway would be inaugurated in a formal event on August 5.

It has been planned to carry out inauguration of this highway into two phases.

First the Federal Minister for Communication, Murad Saeed will inaugurate it on August 5 and later in the second phase the Interior Minister Ijaz Shah would inaugurate the second phase during an another event.

This is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan will also observe Youm-e-Istehssal (Day of Exploitation) on August 5 to protest against the illegal merger of Kashmir into the Indian territory.

Last year on August 5, India had repealed articles 35A and 370 of its constitution, withdrawing special status granted to Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan and the Kashmiris have been protesting against this forced merger for the past one year.

As per media reports Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a press briefing had stated: “We have decided to change the name of Kashmir Highway to Srinagar High as it will take us directly there.”
